HeartLight Kids – Be Your Own Hero
HeartLight Kids: My “heart light’ is drawn to helping children and adolescents be your own hero by overcoming trauma, anxiety, depression, poor self-esteem, challenges in trust and attachment, oppositional or defiant behavior and mood imbalances. Having completed a yearlong Post-Master’s Fellowship at the Child Study Center at the Yale School of Medicine, I am knowledgeable and experienced in psychodynamic play therapy techniques, and fundamental tools of behavior change applied through a trauma-responsive lens. I am also trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), a gold standard to treat children who have experienced trauma.
With years of experience as a trainer and consultant for child welfare, juvenile justice, mental health facilities and schools, I have supervised and delivered services to some of society’s most challenged young clients and youth transitioning to adulthood. As a foster and adoptive parent of now grown children, I understand the experiences of parents struggling to help their children overcome “attachment trauma” and learn to trust again. I have a special connection with struggling teens and their exhausted and exasperated parents, having been a family recipient of excellent services that ultimately helped my own adolescent children and family develop resilience after turbulent years.
